The songwriter and musician I chose is Amy Winehouse who is a notorious British jazz singer in the 2000s and 2010s. Despite her great success in the industry with her iconic albums "Frank" and "Back to Black", her demise ultimately came too soon with her death in 2011 at the age of 27. Winehouse had struggled a lot with fame and addiction, which was why I really wanted to highlight her legacy in jazz and soul music in a positive light.
As a designer who really enjoys illustration, I decided to draw her portrait for the cover spread. I wanted it to have a very sketchy and "doodle inside a notebook" feel, as a nod to Amy, who wrote her songs in many journals. I also drew her tattoos to personalize it even more.
To continue the theme for the article spread, I incorporated her pages of handwritten song lyrics as background and a full body photograph with a bold outline to resemble a bold marker stroke.
