Donald McKinley Glover Jr., also known by his stage name Childish Gambino, is an American actor, comedian, singer, rapper, and filmmaker.
Because the Internet is the second studio album by American rapper Donald Glover, under the stage name Childish Gambino. It was released on December 10, 2013, by Glassnote Records.
The concept of the album centers around the meaninglessness and emptiness that Glover was going through at the time. At its core, “Because the Internet” touches on deeper questions of human existence as opposed to issues of the internet.
When I chose to redesign Because The Internet, I wanted to make sure that there was zero chance of an exact copy of the original design so I made sure that I was only familiar with the front cover.
Playing on the album title, I decided to go in the direction of a desktop computer and a retro 1980s-early 1990s aesthetic for the vinyl. I designed the front cover to mimic a screensaver using the original photo of the artist, and the back cover to be the main screen with the song titles as desktop icons.
The inside of the vinyl is supposed to resemble a glitched screen with error pop up windows. Inside the pop ups are the lyrics to each song. Lastly, I designed the vinyl disc to look like a huge CD.
